The Clean Beauty Products I Use and Love

Beauty

My first foray into clean beauty was when I started phasing out the harsh benzoyl peroxide facial cleanser I’d been using since high school in favor of One Love Organics’ gentle cleanser and moisturizer balm. Unsurprisingly considering what I know now, but almost shocking to me back then, my skin looked better than it had in years. The next step came a few years later when Charlie was born, and I was holding him so close to my face all the time. One day, I noticed a smudge of my foundation had gotten on his cheek. After a moment of panic wondering if it was safe for him, it hit me: why am I putting something potentially risky to my baby on my own face every single day? That moment led me to Beautycounter, almost four years ago.

Even though I don’t use all Beautycounter products, I do have a few big staples from them that I’ve now been relying on for years. What’s more, I truly think they have been a trailblazer in the luxury clean beauty market and it has been exciting to be a tiny part of that. Thanks in part, I believe, to companies like them who have paved the way, and to millennials, who have created such a demand for safer products and ingredient transparency, it has never been easier to find high-performing beauty products that are as safe as they are effective. Since the Sephora sale, which includes items that are almost never discounted, ends today, I thought it would be a good time to round up my master list of favorite clean skincare and beauty products. I’ve starred the items that are from Sephora, which are currently 10% off to Sephora Insiders (one of the best perks programs, in my opinion!) with the code SPRINGSAVE. Another way to save: if you’re new to Beautycounter, sign up for their email list for 20% off your first order.

SKINCARE

One Love Organics Easy Does It cleanser: This is the cleanser that started it all for me! My skin is combination and acne-prone, but this cleanser has kept breakouts at bay for years now. I’ve tried a few other cleansers merely out of boredom, but always go back to this one!

One Love Organics Skin Savior balm: Another product I’ve been using for years and always go back to! I switch up moisturizers a little bit depending on the day, but this one is my day and night staple.

*Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet: I’m working through a sample of this and am definitely going to buy the full size! I LOVE the texture (“sorbet” really does feel like the best way to describe it) and how lightweight, but effective, it is.

*Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream: I couldn’t stop talking about this eye cream when I started using it, and am happy to report that I’m still loving it months later! I use it at night and can feel the difference in my eyes on mornings after I skip it.

*Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask: I don’t experiment with many masks, since I’ve found a lot of them make me break out, but I’ve had great luck with Summer Fridays. The fun thing about their original mask, Jet Lag, is that you don’t have to wash it off, so you can use a thin layer as a moisturizer. Perfect for busy moms, too.

*Summer Fridays Overtime Mask: I use this exfoliating mask once a week if I can, since everything works better when my skin is well-exfoliated. My skincare products absorb more effectively and my makeup “sits” better on my face…win-win. I also love that this mask smells like pumpkin :)

Beautycounter Overnight Resurfacing Peel: Let’s go ahead and call this one a magic potion. I apply it after washing my face but before moisturizer a few nights a week and it just seems to make my skin better: glowier, clearer, and generally more healthy-looking. It’s on the pricey side, but it lasts for ages!

Beautycounter Charcoal Mask: This was one of the first masks I started using on a regular basis, and if you have acne-prone skin, I can’t recommend it enough. I use it anytime I feel a breakout coming on, and have also used it as a spot treatment.

MAKEUP

Beautycounter Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer: This tinted moisturizer with SPF has been my quarantine staple. Not only do I always feel more put-together when I have something on my face, I think this product has actually helped improve my skin! I use shade No. 2.

*RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek in Smile: I’ve tried a few RMS Beauty products with mixed results, but my favorite has definitely been this brand classic, which works as both a cream blush and a lip color. I love the coral “Smile” shade, which is also available in this palette.

Beautycounter Cream Blusher: Rosy cheeks are one of my favorite beauty looks. The Hibiscus shade is the prettiest rosy pink, and I love this creamy formula.

Beautycounter Brilliant Brow Gel: When I started filling in my eyebrows, I remember wondering, “WHY haven’t I been doing this all along?!” It’s amazing how big of a difference it makes, and brow gel is now literally the one product I will use no matter what, even if I’m not wearing any other makeup. I like this Beautycounter option because a little bit goes a long way. I use Medium.

*Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara: I’ve been going from one mascara to the next for a few years now and this is definitely the best clean option I’ve tried. The wand is two-sided for both volumizing and lengthening/separating.

Do you have any clean beauty product favorites I should know about? I’d love to hear your recommendations too!

I love the Dew Skin and any Beautycounter lip product. My mom is a distributor for Young Living and I really love their Thieves products. They make a toothpaste that’s amazing. I have tried so many natural deodorants. I think I need to try the native one next though.

    • Lisa says:

I definitely recommend giving Native a try! I remember chatting with you about Schmidt’s and will say that Native has never irritated my skin at all, no matter which scent I’ve used. It actually doesn’t feel any different than a non-natural deodorant!

  2. Caitlin says:

Hi! I’m curious because I’ve been trying to find a good natural deodorant that works and doesn’t irritate my skin terribly, how do you like your native deodorant? Do you find that it irritates you at all? Thanks so much in advance!!

    • Lisa says:

I LOVE Native deodorant! I used Schmidt’s for about a year before switching (in the hopes that I could get by with a less expensive product), but dealt with a lot of irritation from it. Native has been comparable to non-natural deodorants for me–it works really well and hasn’t caused any irritation at all. I know Target often has sample size versions available, which might be worth trying out before buying the full size–that’s what I did! :)
