My Favorite Planning Tools for the New Year

Heart to Heart

Just yesterday, I finally started doing some dreaming and planning for the coming year. Usually, I work through my goal-setting prep work a little earlier. This year, though, I’ve felt like I needed to take things one step at a time and be extra-present in each stage: unpacking the house, preparing for Christmas, celebrating Christmas, and now, planning for 2020. (Needless to say, preparing for baby girl’s arrival is next on the list…but again, one step at a time ;)) I rely on a few incredibly helpful tools, some of which I’ve used for years now, to get organized each year and to stay on track throughout it. With just a week left of 2019, I thought it would be the perfect time to share my favorites. Bonus: a few of them are on sale right now and there’s still time to snap them up before the ball drops!

PowerSheets: I’ve been sharing my annual and monthly goals here on Something Pretty for a few years now, but what you may not know is that I formulate every single one of those goals on paper–with my PowerSheets, to be exact. I was the Shop Manager at Cultivate What Matters (previously the Lara Casey Shop) back in the early days of PowerSheets, so I can attest to the fact that the improvements and refinements the team has made over the past six years are truly incredible! Every year, I am so eager to see what updates they’ve made, and every year, I’m blown away. The 2020 editions are truly the most beautiful yet, and I have no doubt they’ll be the most impactful too. A few of the cover options are sold out, but the one I’ll be using this year (pictured above!) plus a fun floral pattern are still in stock! Take 15% off with the code CLEARVISION2020 at checkout.

Monk Manual: This might be one of my favorite product discoveries of 2019. Part goal planner, part calendar, part productivity planner, part Rule of Life-organizer, this gorgeous leather volume brings together all different research across various fields to create a powerful system. They sent me one to take a look at, and since I have my systems for goal tracking and planning pretty set in place, I gave it to Dave. He has been using it daily ever since…it’s actually the first time he has ever stuck with a paper planner before! I asked him what it is about Monk Manual that he loves, and he said: “I love being able to organize my days, weeks, and months intentionally, and have already seen the fruit of setting my goals and priorities for each timeframe. The prompts are incredibly helpful and only take me a few minutes each morning to fill out, so they don’t feel overwhelming.”

Simplified Planner: After modeling in the Simplified Planner shoot a few weeks ago, I was reminded how much I adore their products! I switched things up for 2019 (more details on that below) but was excited to pick up my 2020 Simplified Planner with a gift card their team generously gave me as a thank you for being in the shoot. I ordered this one and can hardly wait to break it open next week! Simplified Planners were my first “grown-up” planners post-college, and they are truly the best of the best when it comes to quality, usability, and, of course, simplicity. It’s everything I need to stay organized, and nothing I don’t need distracting me–aka, planner perfection. Take 20% off with code NEWYEAR at checkout.

Blessed Is She Liturgical Planner: I used this planner for the first time this past year and absolutely loved it. It’s definitely more robust than the Simplified Planner–along with feast days, novena start dates, and holy days of obligation (my favorite additional features), there are also weekly planning pages, daily gratitude boxes, spaces for grocery lists and meal plans, and daily reminders for self-care. Besides the reminders about the liturgical calendar that I mentioned, my favorite thing about this planner was being able to see the whole week at a glance. I haven’t seen a 2020 version in person, but it looks like they added some goal pages too!

Are there any other tools you use and love? Let me know what works for you, or if you have any questions about the products I mentioned here!

I’ve never been a big planner person but Patrick just gave me a Monk Manual for my birthday. The Rule of life book is on my list so I’m glad this can help with that! I love the 90 day format because it doesn’t seem like a big commitment. I’m glad Dave likes it and uses it!

I just found your blog by googling the words “something pretty”. It is fantastic to me to find this, as I too am Catholic, and sooo enjoy pretty things. So, thank you for your blog. I want to mark it, so I can have easy access but I don’t see any button for that purpose. Am I missing it?
