Happy Halloween, friends!
I promise Charlie enjoyed his baby dragon costume more than he is letting on in this photo :)
Thank you so much for the fun suggestions in the comments section of my post last week about Halloween traditions! There were some great ones, so if you don’t have any plans for the day, pop over to the post here to give it a read.
I especially loved hearing from people through comments and messages that you’ve adopted our chili for Halloween dinner tradition! We borrowed the tradition from my parents, who used to host other parents for chili and drinks while the kids (ahem, high schoolers…) ran around the neighborhood trick or treating. Last year, we made How Sweet It Is’ Spicy Chicken Chili with Pumpkin Beer Biscuits, and our go-to chili recipe is Eat Yourself Skinny’s Turkey Chili. This year, we’re trying the recipe from the Whole30 cookbook (Day 10 today!), but this one is compliant and looks delicious.
As shown in the photo above, the three of us headed to the Halloween-themed storytime at our library yesterday, which was so much fun! Charlie and I are regulars, so it was sweet to share one of our go-to activities with Dave. Along with cooking up our chili tonight, we’re planning to bring Charlie “trick or treating” at a few neighbors’ houses, pass out Halloween candy, and watch Harry Potter. Definitely on the low-key side, but we are looking forward to it :)
Hope you have a fun day, whatever you’re up to! And if you have little ones, let me know what they’re dressing up as–it was so hard to choose just one costume!
Happy Halloween! Charlie is the cutest! We might be hitting up a party with some friends early on. But we will definitely be doing some local trick or treating and watching baseball! Jimpy is an ice cream man (lol, Patrick made his truck!) and Gigi will be a ballerina. :)
Jimpy’s costume was SO cute!! Did he come up with that idea himself? So creative :) And of course, Gigi was a darling ballerina!
Our little guy is dressing up as a monkey! That’s his nickname anyway, and it’s so fun to see him run around with a little tail :) Headed out to a few parties with friends & we are so excited!
Awww, so cute! There is a baby monkey costume in Dave’s family that he wore and that all of our nieces and nephew have worn, but Charlie didn’t fit into it at the right time! Next baby :)
My almost two year old is a lamb this year. :) I’m about to put my chili on. May I ask where you got your beautiful boots from?
Oh, how sweet!! Hope you enjoyed your chili! And of course–they are from Target and they have already made it through three years, believe it or not :) They’re the Kasia Leather Riding Boots by Merona. It doesn’t look like they’re in stock right now, but I’ll keep an eye out and post about them on Instagram if they come back!
I adopted your chili tradition this year as well! This was the first year my husband and I were able to pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters together, and we loved warming up with a warm bowl of chili after the candy was gone! I hope y’all enjoyed your day — Charlie is looking especially cute as a dragon! :)
I’m so glad you enjoyed a new tradition–I hope it is a sweet part of your Halloween for many years to come! :)
