I remember going to a summer sleepover in 1996. It stands out to me because it was right before I moved to Singapore, and we did lots of fun activities that girls going into second grade like to do, including a serious plan to sneak outside and star gaze (until we remembered that my friend’s house had an alarm system).
That sleepover party is my last memory of having seen honeysuckle flowers, and I remember tasting the drop of sweet nectar for which the flowers get their name. I don’t think I’ve seen honeysuckle flowers since then, but this childhood memory from Virginia tells me that the flowers were white and a little bit yellow. When I clicked on this article from the Wall Street Journal style section about honeysuckle being 2011’s color of the year, imagine my surprise when I found all this!
Even Cuisinart is getting in on the fun with this adorable ice cream/sorbet/frozen yogurt maker.
According to James Mischka from Badgley Mischka in this article by the Associated Press, this vibrant reddish-pink is “a positive, strong, affirmative color, and I think that’s what hopefully everyone’s attitude is going into next year.”
So, what do you think? Will you be wearing honeysuckle in 2011? I’ll definitely be on the lookout for it in my favorite stores. I’ll keep you posted on any finds!
Love,
Lisa
