It’s one thing to make an inspiration board just for fun, but it’s entirely different making a board for a real bride. All of a sudden, it’s not just about finding pretty pictures, rather, it’s about hunting down ideas that she can really use to pull together her perfect wedding. My lovely blog friend Mary Lane sent me this description for a friend’s upcoming wedding, and I got right to work crafting a board. Here’s the description of the wedding:
“She’s getting married next August at her beachside hometown in Florida. Her buzzwords are ‘rustic’ and ‘coastal’ and her colors are going to be light gray, white/ivory, with touches of green. The ceremony is going to be at a gorgeous old (like super old) chapel, and then the reception will be at a beachside venue that’s part of a marina. Any help to get her started?”
{Rustic Coastal}
{Beachside view: Style Me Pretty| Gray bridesmaid dresses: Style Me Pretty| Starfish wine stopper: Style Me Pretty| Birch vase with white roses: Style Me Pretty| Lace dress and green and white bouquet: Style Me Pretty| Gray vest and boutonniere: Style Me Pretty| Green glass vases: Magnolia Rouge| Quilt: Sparkle and Hay}
Some ideas a bride can take from this board are clean white backdrops and natural views, flowy gray dresses for the bridesmaids and gray suits for the guys, sweet nautical favors, natural textures like birch and burlap, white flowers with the perfect amount of greenery, incorporating green accents seamlessly(I think of seamless as “meant to be there”, like through these glass bottles…something like green gerbera daisies would be the opposite of seamless :P), and if available, a pretty quilt to up the rustic factor. Rustic and coastal are tricky to blend since rustic tends to be more mismatched and coastal tends to be more streamlined–however, something that categorizes both is laid back. An already-gorgeous venue will lend itself to lots of natural beauty, so think in terms of enhancing that rather than distracting from that with tons of big decor. Picking a neutral color scheme and a color found everywhere in nature as an accent is the perfect start!
Have a lovely weekend!
Love,
Lisa
P.S. To see past inspiration boards, click here. “Turquoise Whimsy” and “Rustic Early Fall” were both made for real brides as well! :)
It’s beautiful! Thank you so much for doing that for my friend. I wish you’d been around when I got engaged to help me get started… I was kind of lost, and it would have been nice to have an inspiration board to give me som direction.
I really love those boutonnieres and the idea of the green glass bottles. Also, that white bouquet is amazing – simple, yet beautiful.
My pleasure!! It was really fun to make and I’m overjoyed that she likes it! I want to see your wedding pictures so much, by the way…I think you should blog them on your anniversary or something, please! ;)
Definitely! I meant to post them for my one year anniversary and just couldn’t get it done.
It IS beautiful!! I’m the friend Mary Lane mentioned, and that board is fantastic!! I will definitely be passing on the picture of that bouquet and the boutonniere to my florist, and green bottles for flowers would be perfect for the outdoor tables at our reception!! Thank you both so much!
I’m so happy you like it–that makes my day!! I love your concept and colors so much, and I know it’s going to be gorgeous! Good luck with your planning, lovely! :)
i love those colors! the board looks lovely :)
What a perfect board-it’s just gorgeous! I just love the unexpected choice of green instead of blue!
Oh. My. Word!

this is SO perfect, lisa! you’ve got a real eye for these things :)
Aww, Jacin! That means so much coming from you! :)
