Dave and I do our best to stick to a pretty strict budget, and one thing that is not really a part of it is seasonal decor. While this is good for keeping us (okay, mostly me) in check while browsing Target’s fall goodies, it’s also deeply important to me to celebrate seasons and holidays–especially now that we are in a house and have a baby! Charlie won’t remember anything about his first fall, but Dave and I most certainly will, so I want to make sure that we’re intentional about starting (and keeping up with) traditions that we can revisit throughout Charlie’s childhood. While we’re commemorating fall mostly through free activities, like going to the pumpkin patch and baking my favorite pecan pie, we also decided to put just $60 toward fall decorations. Using the money well was a fun challenge, and resulted in a house that is festive, but not overdone, and a very content financial analyst husband ;) Here’s the result!
The breakdown:
One hay bale: $6
Two mums: $10
An assortment of pumpkins: $20
One copper vase (actually a utensil crock!): $13, purchased on sale and delivered to the store to save on shipping
Cotton bolls: $6
Navy buffalo check pillow: $5
I tried to balance both natural elements that make some of the best fall decorations, in my opinion, plus a few things we’ll be able to keep and bring out year after year.

Love this!! One of my favorite tips: Save a few dollars from your fall decor budget to shop the holiday markdowns after the season — and stash away for the next year. I’ve been able to add a few favorite pieces at a great deal this way. It just requires a little patience to wait a whole year to use them.
I love the cotton on the mantle. I’ve been meaning to make a Fixer Upper style wreath with magnolia leaves and boxwood for our front door. Hopefully this week to enjoy a bit before Halloween!

This is all so cute! I’m not much of a decorating person myself, so I usually can’t justify spending money on seasonal items- but you’ve inspired me that even a little $ can go a long way!
