With all of the Christmas goodies already hitting stores, it feels like I’m getting this fall style post in just under the wire…but let’s be honest, there are still at LEAST three more weeks that should be categorized as fall ;)
Have you heard the term “momiform?” It’s slang for “mom uniform” and is a concept I remember cringing about before becoming a mom myself. There was no way I’d want to wear the same types of clothes every day! But…sure enough, I quickly realized that some outfits (anything dry clean only, scratchy, too tight to sit on the floor in, or in need of frequent readjusting) made me feel less confident and capable as a mom, while others (something comfortable but still cute, easy to move around in, and always machine washable) made me feel like I could do this. It’s funny how a just-right outfit can have that effect, don’t you think?
The look I’m wearing in this post is a perfect example of my fall momiform. The base of a soft striped tee (only $24 and comes in seven colors) and leggings is simple, but functional, and it all felt stylish and put-together with the addition of my field jacket (a splurge, but a classic staple that is worth every penny!), cute sneakers, and my favorite sunglasses. I’d recommend each item to any mama reading this!
Thank you so much to Amber of Six Foot Photography for these photos! I’m so grateful to have Charlie’s pucker captured forever :) Plus, we’ve since gotten his hair cut, and these photos make me miss his unruly baby locks (though don’t worry–curls are still intact)!
Mama friends, do you have a go-to momiform? What are some of your staple pieces? I’d love to hear!

Yes! I’ve minimized my wardrobe lately and my favorite things to wear are skinny jeans/leggings/maxi skirt, simple t shirts and cardigans. I love scarves for an extra accessory when it’s not too hot. And definitely flats!
I do miss wearing heels to church, but considering I now spend half of Mass walking around with Charlie, it’s just not worth it anymore. Someday :) In the meantime, it’s the perfect excuse to stock up on cute flats!
I’m not a mom but I wear that exact same outfit probably 95% of weekends for running errands or hanging out. Not sure what that says about me, but what can I say- can’t go wrong with comfy but stylish staples!
Me too! Totally my everyday uniform. And I had the same thought: what does that say about me? :D
Haha! It just means that y’all are smart and embraced the athleisure trend before I did! ;)
Charlie is very well dressed! So are you! :)
Oh thank you!
Lisa, the thing that I love most about your blog is that even though you have entered motherhood, and your content obviously reflects that, your blog is still interesting to read for gals like me who are the same age as you but still in an entirely different life stage. When favorite bloggers become mamas I am always a tiny bit afraid that the blog content will no longer be relevant to me. I am so happy that this is not the case with your blog! Even though the title of this post was „Fall Styles for Moms“ I knew I would love the outfit and find inspiration for myself in this post. Thank you for that!
Sorry for the lengthy comment but I just felt the need to share that with you :-) Much love from Germany, Kristina
Kristina, thank you SO much for your encouraging comment. I definitely felt the same way about the blogs I read before becoming a mom, and have tried hard to stay true to my current season of life without alienating anyone. Your affirmation means so much to me! Thank you, as always, for reading and commenting! xoxo
