Dave joined me in North Carolina about a year and a half ago, and while he has embraced it wholeheartedly, I know there are a few things about his hometown of Syracuse that he misses: his family, (I miss them too–hi, sisters-in-law! :)), rye boat dip (any Southerners familiar with that one? It was new to me!), and especially this time of year, apples. Two years ago, about a month before we got engaged, I visited him and he brought me to a gorgeous apple orchard 10 minutes from his parents’ house. We had the best time running through the orchard, eating apples right from the trees, and watching the sun set. We took pictures the whole time, and I remember thinking “If I wasn’t on a blog break, I’d definitely post these!” I stumbled upon them a few weeks ago, and even though they’re a little old, they still made me so happy. Apple orchards are few and far between in the Triangle, so consider this post mine and Dave’s virtual visit :)
Apple picking is one of my favorite fall traditions as well. Growing up in Germany pumpkin picking was not really a thing there but we always went apple picking. Since I’m in England right now I’ll have to pass on that tradition this year and I can definitely understand why your husband misses that particular fall tradition. Have you thought of an alternative that you could do in the Triangle?
Also, beautiful pictures as always ;-)
That’s so interesting that pumpkin picking isn’t common in Germany–I had no idea! We haven’t thought of an alternative but I love that idea and am going to brainstorm on it!
Dave is probably great to go apple picking with because he is so tall! I’ve been feeling nostalgic for fall activities. There are no pumpkin patches around here and fresh apple cider :(
Good thing you’ll be here soon!! Dave considers his height his strongest apple picking asset :)
I am definitely with Dave on this one – New England/New York are way ahead of North Carolina in terms of apple orchards! There seem to be more great apple orchards in my corner of southeastern CT than in all of NC…
Is apple picking a good enough excuse for a weekend trip? :) Next year!!
My husband and I went apple picking for the first time last weekend, and it was so fun! We actually live not far from Syracuse right now, and this area of New York is particularly good for apples – Cornell is always developing new varieties that aren’t available anywhere else yet!
Aww, so fun! I think Dave is a bit of an apple snob due to his upstate NY upbringing :) Empire is his favorite!
Hi sister-in-law :) Apple picking is the best! So is rye boat dip(especially when Dave brings it) and family, of course! Miss you!
Haha! I’m so happy you commented–I was hoping you would! <3
