Welcome to Something Pretty! I’m Lisa, and I’m honored that you’re here!

I’m a wife, a mama, and a lifelong writer. Something Pretty has undergone many an evolution since I hit “publish” on my first blog post in December 2010, when I was a junior in college pursuing my degree in magazine journalism. Dreams of writing for a wedding magazine, enchantment at the world of blogging I had stumbled into through an assignment at my internship, and the newfound community that this small platform opened up had me hooked from the very first day, and Something Pretty has been a sweet and special corner of the internet to me ever since.

Since those early days, Something Pretty has seen me through my transitions from a college student, to a wedding magazine editor, to the stay-at-home mama/part-time fashion copywriter that I am grateful to be now. It’s also where I shared my joy of becoming a wife to my study abroad sweetheart, our delight as we became parents, and all of the memories and adventures that have been part of my story so far.

A little more about me–I’m New York City-born and internationally raised, but I now live in Raleigh, North Carolina. My Catholic faith is my greatest blessing–it informs and inspires me daily, both in my vocation as a wife and mother, and as a writer and creator. I believe in the gifts and graces that come from observing the liturgical year in simple, but meaningful, ways, and I count St. John Paul II and St. Zelie Martin among my best friends. The smell of peonies takes me right back to my wedding day. I’ve read a tattered, yard-sale-find copy of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn every summer since I was 13–my mom must have paid $2 for it, but it’s one of my most prized possessions. I go over my coffee shop budget almost every month, especially when my favorite spot is serving lavender almond milk lattes. I don’t believe in desserts that don’t have chocolate in them. I could watch Audrey Hepburn movies every weekend (and often do). My husband and I met in Austria and share a passion for European travel (his top destination is Ireland; mine is France). I don’t go to a wedding or to the ballet without layering on waterproof mascara. I love Sunday brunch and afternoon tea. I jump at every opportunity to get dressed up, especially since I became a mama and those days are made all the sweeter in their rarity.

Most of all, I strive daily to seek out whatever is lovely and to think upon those things (Philippians 4:8). My prayer is that Something Pretty may be one of them.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here! I can’t wait to get to know you.
