Our New Artwork by a North Carolina-Based Painter

Home

A few months ago, I found a dusty blush velvet chair to fill the empty space in our bedroom where the glider had been since we moved in. I had always envisioned hanging a beautiful piece of artwork in that corner, and as that became the final step toward completing our bedroom, I grew all the more eager to make a decision. The corner is surrounded by huge windows, and when we open all the shutters, we have the perfect view of the giant rose bushes outside our house. It makes us feel like our bedroom is right in the middle of a garden! With that in mind, I was leaning toward a piece with a nature-inspired color palette, and maybe something that felt a little abstract.

In the midst of my search, I reconnected with Sarah Jane Tart (she had attended some Southern Weddings events back in the day!), an incredible painter based in Durham. Dave and I both fell in love with a piece she titled “Running Wild and Free,” inspired by the creeks and marshes of Bald Head Island. Sarah Jane generously sent us a fine art print of the painting (and wow, I have never seen a print with quality this incredible–the colors and texture are striking!). Ever since we hung it up, it has been the loveliest sight to open my eyes to every morning!

This piece is from Sarah Jane’s Wonder collection, which she shared more about on her blog. After having so vague of an idea of the artwork I was looking for, I couldn’t be more thrilled that such a special and meaningful painting, by a local artist, no less, ended up being the perfect fit!

Next up on my house to-do list: hunting down some fabulous floral curtains (or figuring out an easy-enough DIY option) for my freshly painted office/our guest room! Feeling inspired by this and this

It looks beautiful! I think some of the sky tones pick up the color of the chair :)
