Happy, happy new year! My first post of the year is usually my goals, but, probably unsurprisingly, goal-setting is taking an unusually long time this year. I’m especially thankful for my PowerSheets to keep me chugging along and focused on what matters during the process! Dave and I are also being more intentional about crafting our individual goals alongside each other so that we can best move forward together with a shared vision. We have never taken this approach, but I suspect it is going to be very impactful for us. More to come on that soon! In the meantime, I thought I would wrap up the holiday season with my December outfit diary. My winter wardrobe consists of many pieces that I have had for years, so you’ll see a bunch of J. Crew (three cheers for long-lasting quality!) and quite a few repeat items below. I hope this very real look at some of my day-to-day outfits serves as a little dose of inspiration to wear items you own in new ways, to consider some of my favorite classic, quality staples if you are in the market for them, and even to be unapologetic about serial outfit repeating ;) Here we go!
Pearl sweater: This pearl-detailed mockneck sweater is my current go-to for the very few times we’re headed out to restaurants (since we’re only going places where we can sit outside). It’s a little dressy, but warm! Mine is an H&M find from last year, but this and this are similar. / Zella Live In High Waist leggings: By far my favorite leggings I’ve ever owned. Thick but not too hot, opaque, high-waisted, and not shiny. Wearing a small. / Margaux The Boot in navy: I was working on Gal Meets Glam when this collaboration with Margaux launched. The boots are a splurge but when it comes to comfort, elegance, and versatility, they simply can’t be beat. Take 10% off with the code LISA. / Julie Vos pearl ring: A little bit statement and a little bit classic! I don’t wear this ring every day but think it adds such a fun detail to any outfit when I do put it on.
Little Poppy Co. headband: My love for Azelie’s Little Poppy Co bow subscription is well-documented, but my new addiction is their matching mama accessories! You do need to have an active subscription to access their add-on shop, but they also have an accessories subscription (use the code BOWLOVE for $5 off your first month) that is verrry tempting ;) / J. Crew Essential tee: White tees are such a staple for me, I reach for them as soon as they’re out of the wash. This is my favorite one I own right now! I sized up to a large because I prefer my tees to have a looser fit. / J. Crew Factory jeggings: My current favorite jeans at a great price point! They are stretchy and comfy and I love the high-waist. I’m wearing a size 28 and think they fit true to size. / Margaux Demi flats: The perfect, classic ballet flats. Margaux’s quality and fit are second to none! The Demi is one of their lower-priced silhouettes, so they’re a great introduction to the brand. Use the code LISA for 10% off your first order.
J. Crew Factory cotton-wool Teddie sweater: I’ve been stealing Dave’s gray crewneck sweater for years and finally decided it was time to get my own ;) Wearing a medium. P.S. Do NOT put Teddie sweaters in the dryer–they shrink like crazy if you do. / J. Crew slip skirt: Skirts haven’t played a big role in my wardrobe in years, but lately, I’ve been feeling inspired by them. This navy slip skirt is surprisingly versatile and feels fresh and modern. / Gray ankle boots: I’ve had these boots for a few years and find the lower cut more flattering on me than many other ankle boots. Perfect for wearing with skirts or dresses! Similar here. / Julie Vos Milano bangle bracelets: I almost never wear bracelets, but slipped these bangles on to add a little interest to this simple sweater. They come in so many pretty colors! / Tortoise sunglasses: These $12 Amazon sunglasses are my favorites! They stay on my face better than any of my other sunglasses and I think they look/feel way more expensive than they are.
Blush velvet bow: I love adding this pretty bow hair tie to ponytails in the winter to add a next-to-effortless feminine twist to any look. My exact one is sold out (but seems to be a seasonal pre-Christmas item at J. Crew, so I expect it’ll be back again next year!), but here is a similar two-pack.
J. Crew cableknit bobble sweater: Hey there, sweater season! It doesn’t get more cozy or timeless than cream cableknit. Here is this year’s version. / J. Crew Factory jeggings: My current favorite jeans at a great price point! They are stretchy and comfy and I love the high-waist. I’m wearing a size 28 and think they fit true to size. / Veja Esplar sneakers: I love these sneakers so much! Super classic, beautiful quality, and very easy to style with anything from jeans. to shorts, to dresses. / Loft velvet headband: Lots of headbands give me a headache by the end of the day, but this one from Loft doesn’t. The black velvet is out of stock, but here is a black one, here are the other velvets, and here’s a different black velvet. / Beautycounter Color Intense Lipstick in Girls Night: I have rarely worn lipstick this year, but swiped on my favorite red to make a day at home (aka, a day without a mask) feel more festive! This one is formulated with clean ingredients, stays put beautifully, and feels surprisingly hydrating for how bright the color is.
J. Crew Essential tee: White tees are such a staple for me, I reach for them as soon as they’re out of the wash. This is my favorite one I own right now! I sized up to a large because I prefer my tees to have a looser fit. / J. Crew cashmere cardigan: I’ve had this cardigan in my closet for close to a decade, which just goes to show what a classic it is. Definitely a staple! Similar here. / J. Crew pink lace pants: These pants are so different from any of my other pants, they make me smile every time I wear them! If you like the look, definitely search for “J. Crew lace pants” on Poshmark, since they’ve done a bunch of different ones over the years. I also love this navy style for a subtler look, and this cherry pair for a bolder one! / Sam Edelman Loraine loafers: One of my favorite pairs of fall shoes, these loafers have held up beautifully over the two years I’ve had them. They come in a bunch of different colors–mine are the Saddle Leather. / Loft velvet headband: Lots of headbands give me a headache by the end of the day, but this one from Loft doesn’t. The black velvet is out of stock, but here is a black one, here are the other velvets, and here’s a different black velvet.
I’m not going to re-link everything here because it is the exact same outfit as the one pictured two before this, just trading sneakers for my favorite flats :)
Vince long-sleeve tee: I bought this slouchy tee for my first branding shoot and still wear it often–the color is so perfect. This is the closest thing I can find in stock. / Madewell bobble cardigan: My most-worn item from last fall/winter and still a favorite! I rarely go more than a few days without reaching for this cozy layer–I even put it on over pajamas in the morning sometimes. / Julie Vos Bee Pearl Drop earrings: I wore these fun bumblebee and pearl earrings in the Simplified shoot last year. Love that they’re a fun twist on the classic pearl drop earring–they’d make a lovely gift!
Navy faux fur jacket: I loved this Gal Meets Glam Collection faux fur coat from the first sneak peek I saw, and have been pleasantly surprised by how many times I’ve worn it! (See a dressed up look from last year here). Madewell and Abercrombie have cute faux fur jackets at reasonable price points. / Black velvet bow scrunchie: My collection of velvet bow hair accessories might be getting out of hand…I just love them in the winter! Plus, I am all for accessories that make my hair feel styled without my spending extra time on it :)
J. Crew ruffled blouse: I love layered winter looks, but often find it hard to pull them off without adding too much bulk. Dark colors, a longer sweater, and a short-sleeved blouse underneath (similar to this) made this one work. / Navy sweater: This is actually one of Dave’s old sweaters, which I stole the first winter after we were married and have yet to return ;) Similar here. / Zella Live In High Waist leggings: By far my favorite leggings I’ve ever owned. Thick but not too hot, opaque, high-waisted, and not shiny. Wearing a small. / Blondo Presto Suede Boots: I’ve been wanting a paid of black suede knee-high boots for a few years now, and was excited to find these under the Christmas tree! I have heard great things about how well these hold up through winter weather. The shafts are stretchy and comfortable and I love the classic, leg-lengthening look. / Loft velvet headband: Lots of headbands give me a headache by the end of the day, but this one from Loft doesn’t. The black velvet is out of stock, but here is a black one, here are the other velvets, and here’s a different black velvet.

Thank you so much! Chic and cozy are definitely two things I’m going for, so I appreciate that :)
Always love your outfit posts! :D
Thank you so much, Mary!! xoxo
My favorite look is definitely the slip skirt! It looks so good with that shade of gray top and boots!
Agreed, so good!
Thank you! That was one of my favorites too–plus, it was super comfortable!
New boots are cute!!
I’ve been looking at Margaux for two years now, but I’m finally giving in and buying a pair (before Nancy Ray’s contentment challenge starts on Sunday!) due to how much you seem to love yours. I have no appropriate Mass shoes and it’s made getting ready on Sundays more cranky than it’s worth, now I just have to decide between the navy heel and the GMG toile flat…
Ooh, I’m excited to hear that!! I really do love them and hope you do too. Let me know which pair you decided on, and good luck with your Contentment Challenge!
