My love for Beautycounter (that led me to become a consultant for them) is well-documented, but even though I’ve switched the majority of my beauty products to theirs, I still use a handful of non-Beautycounter things as well. For the most part, this is due to one of the following reasons: 1. Beautycounter doesn’t carry that type of product, 2. I don’t love their version, or 3. Their version costs more than I’m willing to spend, even with my consultant discount. I love reading about the products people use and love, so in case you do too, this post is for you!
Cover FX Blotting Powder in Light: As of right now, this is the only makeup product I use daily that isn’t Beautycounter. I found this powder after trying three or four from Sephora a few years ago before finally asking someone who worked there for a recommendation. I haven’t looked back since! I much prefer the compact to the loose powder Beautycounter offers, and since it scores a nice low 3 on the Think Dirty app, I still feel fine about using it now that I’m on the safer product train.
Supergoop Defense Refresh Setting Mist with Rosemary SPF 50: This mist is a new addition to my daily routine. I loved the idea of a setting mist, especially for the hot summer ahead, and I seriously needed to add some SPF to my daily routine, so I was intrigued by this combination. The girl at Blumercury sold me when she mentioned that since the mist is made with rosemary, it also repels mosquitos!
Schmidt’s deodorant in Lavender + Sage: I took forever to finally make the switch to safer deodorant–I only started using this one a few months ago. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much I like it! The biggest difference from the Secret deodorant I used for probably a decade prior is that you definitely can’t shave your underarms right before applying this because it stings terribly. Plan ahead accordingly :) I tried Toms deodorant before this one and didn’t like it at all, and I have friends who swear by Native and Primally Pure. Those are both more than I’d personally prefer to spend on deodorant, and I like that I can pick up Schmidt’s at Target. My friend Amy Beth has tried a bunch of safer deodorants, and I loved reading her reviews when looking for the right one for me!
Monat Replenish Masque: My mom gave me this for my birthday because she recently started using Monat products and I have been loving it! I use it in place of conditioner once per week and definitely notice a difference in how healthy my hair looks after I do. Reach out to my friends Heather or Jen if you’re interested in their products.
Jane Iredale Magic Mitt: My friend Stephanie told me about this amazing makeup removal product and I’m never going back to wipes. This handy mitt removes makeup (waterproof mascara included) better than anything else I’ve ever used and I love that it’s more environmentally friendly and safe than most options out there.
Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo: I’ve loved every Drybar product I’ve ever tried, but the one I buy again and again is their dry shampoo. It works so much better than any other formula I’ve tried, and especially as a mom, it has been quite the lifesaver on some mornings over the last year and a half ;)
Essie nail polish: I have been using Essie polishes almost exclusively ever since they started selling them in stores (I actually blogged about it when they did, haha!). I love having my nails painted and their polish stays put for a decent amount of time and comes in the most beautiful shades and finishes.
Big Sexy Hair Spray and Play hairspray: After I moved to North Carolina in July 2013, I was lamenting the fact that my hair wouldn’t hold curl when my friends (Southern hair experts if I’ve ever met any!) Marissa and Kristin told me to go buy Big Sexy Hair hairspray. They were right–nothing keeps hair in place during Southern summer humidity better.
I occasionally reach for a non-Beautycounter lip color if I feel like it, but for everyday wear, I love their Lip Sheers and can’t wait to get my recent order that includes one of the new Color Intense lipsticks! I also use an OGX shampoo from Target, but since I’m planning to replace the bottle I’m currently using as soon as it runs out (it scores terribly on the Think Dirty app), I didn’t include it in this list. My priority for shampoo is how long it keeps my hair looking clean and not oily if I don’t wash it for a few days, so if you have any recommendations, I’d love to hear!
