The Three Podcasts I Listen To

Heart to Heart

Do you listen to podcasts? I was a little late to the party, but started listening to a few when Charlie was teeny tiny. When you’re sitting at home with a baby who doesn’t do much all day every day, it’s nice to hear some adult voices talking about interesting things :) Now, I usually listen to them in the car, and while it can take me awhile to get through each one sometimes, I never miss an episode from my favorites! I’ve sampled a handful of podcasts that I’ve heard about from friends, but these are the ones that have stayed on my “subscribed” list.

Gray suede mules | Jeans | Rug | Phone case

Coffee + Crumbs: This is the podcast that made me fall in love with podcasts, and it’s still my number one favorite! I think the C+C founder, Ashlee Gadd, is a kindred spirit of mine–I resonate with so many of the things she shares. Their podcast is so honest, encouraging, and fun, and I truly feel like it’s a must-listen for every mom. In fact, one of my favorite things about it is chatting with my mama friends who also listen, because each episode inspires such great conversation. Is there such thing as a podcast club rather than a book club? :)
Favorite episodes: Marriage is Good Hard Work (after I listened the first time, I made Dave listen to this one with me and he loved it too!), Give and Take, It’s Their Day Too, This Is How We Do It

Fountains of Carrots: This is my most recent discovery, and it has been a fun one. The hosts are two Catholic bloggers who bring on interesting guests to discuss topics like motherhood, vocation, liturgical living, literature, and more. I enjoy the variety of topics, and the hosts are really funny!
Favorite episodes: Scandalous Books are Good for Your Soul, Let’s Talk About Catholic Baby Names, Making Your Business Work With Your Vocation, Uncharted Territory: Getting Real About Natural Family Planning

The Catholic Feminist: I’ve been listening to The Catholic Feminist since its launch, and love the way Claire isn’t afraid to tackle tough topics and address how to approach them as faithful Catholics. She brings on some incredibly wise and well-spoken guests, and so many episodes have impacted my perception of the world.
Favorite episodes: The Dignity of the Poor and Homeless, Cultivating Catholic Community, How Beauty Saves and Alcoholism Destructs, What If You Don’t “Get Anything” Out of Mass?

I also listen to occasional episodes that sound interesting to me from:

The Goal Digger Podcast
Creative Empire
How I Built This

Let me know if you have any other must-listen podcasts I should add to my list! A few more that I know are popular among some of my friends are Young House Love Has a Podcast, Risen Motherhood, Among the Lilies, and The Lively Show.

Great list! I listen to some of these as well! My podcast tastes are all over the place, but some that I think you would like too are Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations, For The Love with Jen Hatmaker, and The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey. I listen to podcasts on my 30 min commute each way so I really listen to a ton!!! I love them!! Also, for long road trips, S-Town and Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History were fun to listen to with Austin.

    • Lisa says:

I wish I had gotten into podcasts while I was commuting! That’s when Dave listens to all of his too. I’ve heard great things about The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey–that may be the next one I check out. Thanks for sharing your recommendations!

Three good ones that I listen to, as well! I think you would also like the Simple Show (Tsh Oxenreider’s podcast). Haley Stewart is a co-host! Actually, I think you would love her latest book, At Home in the World, too.

    • Lisa says:

At Home in the World is on my reading list but my library doesn’t have it! May need to bite the bullet on Amazon :) It sounds so good!!

  3. Aw! Thanks so much for including FoC! <3

    • Lisa says:

Haley! Thanks so much for your comment, and for brightening up my car rides with the podcast! Grateful for you and Christy and all the work and heart you pour into it! :)

  4. Hannah Hardy says:

I definitely need to check these out. I recently starting getting into podcasts more. Recently I’ve been listening to Jamie Ivey’s podcast The Happy Hour! She interviews a bunch of random different women who are all really encouraging and inspiring, most also being christian women. It feels like you’re out to coffee with a friend listening to The Happy Hour which I love!

    • Lisa says:

Thanks so much for the recommendation! I listened to the episode Emily Ley was on ages ago, but definitely need to go back and check out some more! :)

  5. Kristina says:

I love podcasts but also don’t listen to many. I used to never miss an episode of The Lively Show but her topics have shifted in a direction that no longer resonate with me so I only listen to the episodes where she shares about her current travels. Therefore, I’m definitely in need of a new podcast favorite and I will surely try out Coffee + Crumbs and The Catholic Feminist. Thanks for sharing!

    • Lisa says:

I think you would really enjoy The Catholic Feminist! Let me know what you think if you give it a listen :)

  6. Abbi Hearne says:

You have to start listening to The Happy Hour by Jamie Ivey! It’s by far my favorite podcast. Her most recent episode with Ellie Holcomb had me crying – so good.

  7. Allison says:

I cannot recommend enough Sorta Awesome. It is a girlfriend chat podcast with wonderful topics: some are lighthearted, some aren’t. I view all four of these women as women and mama mentors.

    • Lisa says:

I’ve never heard of Sorta Awesome but will definitely check it out–thanks for the suggestion!

  8. Dana says:

I haven’t tried listening to podcasts…I’m not sure I’d be able to pay attention just by listening. The Catholic Feminist one sounds super interesting though!

    • Lisa says:

As long as I’m listening to a show/episode I’m really interested in, it definitely keeps my attention, especially in the car! I would love to hear your thoughts on the “Scandalous Books…” episode of Fountains of Carrots–it’s one of my all-time favorite podcast episodes and I think your lit major self would like it!

  9. Anna Frahm says:

SO much YES to Risen Motherhood!!
