Fourth of July Hair and Makeup

Beauty

What are you up to on the Fourth of July? Charlie is not a fan of loud noises, so fireworks are out of the question for us this year. Even though we’ll probably be keeping things low-key (suggestions welcome!), I love thinking about the Fourth of Julys ahead of us…it’s so sweet to imagine going out on a boat, eating popsicles, and watching fireworks with Charlie someday! The funny thing about being in Raleigh on the Fourth of July is that the city kind of clears out–everyone heads to the beach or the lake. It’s that mini holiday weekend migration that inspired the hair and makeup for this post!

Similar shirt, denim shorts, similar gold glitter belt, silver glitter earrings, red lipstick, similar clutch

When you’re in the sun and in and out of the water all day, hair and makeup need to be almost effortless–there’s no point in wasting time with a curling iron or cat eye in the morning. A fishtail braid keeps your hair off of your neck and prevents tangles all day, whether you’re swimming, riding a boat, or just lounging in the sunshine. (Don’t know how to fishtail braid? It’s easier than it looks! I learned a few years ago using this tutorial. I think they look best a little bit messy, so don’t worry if yours doesn’t turn out perfectly!)

The best thing about a bright lip is that even if you have no other makeup on and your hair is kind of a mess, you’ll still look chic! It’s my go-to trick for bad hair days :) On the Fourth of July, stick to sunscreen, maybe a tinted moisturizer and a touch of mascara, and then add your red lip at the end of the day for dinner and fireworks. I just upgraded the red lipstick I’ve been wearing for a few years to Beautycounter Sheer Lipstick in Scarlet and I’m pleasantly surprised by how much I love it! It’s so moisturizing, it feels like a lip balm, and the color stayed put for a long time. It’s my new go-to red, no question!

What are your Fourth of July plans? Any suggestions for activities a nine-month-old might enjoy? Can’t wait to hear!

You look great! I think I’m going to need to try the lipstick at some point. We are going to our neighborhood’s celebration/BBQ, which we have done the past 3 years. Lots of fun for the kids with inflatables, food, and we normally go swimming at the pool there too. :) Have y’all taken Charlie swimming yet? That’s in the morning so we’ll probably just hang out and grill for dinner at home the rest of the day.

We need to find out if our neighborhood is doing anything…the Fourth of July in The Sandlot is basically Dave’s dream :)

That red lipstick looks amazing! I’ve actually been in the market for a new one!

Headed to Nantucket for the 4th and may just have to pack a bright lipstick for the weekend festivities! Enjoy the holiday!

    • Lisa says:

Oh, how fun! I’ve never been to Nantucket but I would LOVE to go someday. I bet it’s magical over the Fourth of July!

  4. Dana says:

Y’all should come to our party!!! There will be a baby pool (for dogs, but Charlie can also enjoy it!) :D

I remember thinking your braid was SO pretty the other day when we had lunch! Will definitely have to give the fishtail braid a try! :) And that lip color is gorgeous on you!!
