Last month, Dave and I attended our friends Morgan and Kevin’s wedding. Not only was it our first time going out without Charlie (my mom came to town to visit and babysit!), it was also my first time curling my hair, doing my full makeup routine, and wearing heels since he was born. And even though, I admit, Dave and I snuck a few peeks at Charlie pictures on our phones, it felt SO good to get dressed up and go out! It had gotten a little too easy to feel like I was going to spend the rest of my life in leggings and top knots (dramatic, I know, but that’s how I felt!), and taking an extra 45 minutes or so to get all done up was refreshing. Now that we’re into the holiday season, there are more opportunities than usual to dress up, and I’m thoroughly enjoying taking advantage of a few of them–and putting one of my new makeup discoveries to good use!

I recently learned about Neutrogena® MoistureSmooth Color Sticks, and having just fallen in love with crayon-like applicators for lipstick, I couldn’t wait to create a holiday-ready look around this new discovery. While I’m all about a good red lip at Christmas (and, let’s face it, any time of year), I decided to experiment with a softer look. The perfect source of inspiration? My favorite Christmas tradition: The Nutcracker Ballet!

After applying my usual base makeup, I did a silver smoky eye (á la The Land of Snow) with black liquid eyeliner on my top lid (just right for heading out to an evening show), rosy cheeks to mimic the look of coming in from the cold, and creamy pink lips with Neutrogena® MoistureSmooth Color Sticks in Pink Nude. I love the way it turned out! While I think the soft pink shade was just right for the look I was going for, the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Sticks come in 16 colors, so there’s something for every skin tone and every holiday festivity–I can picture both Wine Berry and Cherry Pink being especially pretty this time of year! Perhaps best of all, as the name suggests, Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Sticks are super moisturizing, thanks to the shea butter and fruit extracts they’re made with. My lips get so dry in the winter, and lots of lipsticks make that problem even worse, so I know I’ll be reaching for this time and time again in the months ahead.

I’ve tried a few other makeup removers (both wipes and liquids) over the years, but am convinced these do the job better than anything. Taking care of your skin is extra important in the cold, dry winter months, and getting rid of all your makeup at the end of the day is the first step to that!

neutrogena-makeup-removerHere’s a tip: my friend Emily clued me in to the idea of buying name brand groceries at Wal-Mart, where the prices are often the lowest for the same exact products. I’ve adopted the same habit for beauty products, and am sure I save a pretty penny over time by always getting my Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes there.

Oh my goodness!! This post could not have come at a better time. I have been contemplating a cheek and lip combo for awhile now but wasn’t really sure which one to go with. Some options can be so expensive and with money being tight, I just wasn’t ready to make that kind of splurge. I will be heading to Walmart today to pick a color stick for sure! Thank you so much for sharing! xxoo

Oops! I feel so silly now. It looks like it is just a lip color which would be so wonderful this time of year anyway. Not for cheeks. :)

      • Lisa says:

Haha! :) The good news is, since the lip color is so inexpensive, you can easily get both on a budget! Hope you found a color you love!

  2. Robyn says:

I too swear by the Neutrogena makeup remover towelettes! Love the smoky eye and soft pink color palette on you!! :)

  3. gorgeous, Lisa! Love your tips.

So funny – when I was in middle school or high school, I actually pretended to do a Neutrogena commercial using the face wipes in front of my bathroom mirror. Hilarious, but I couldn’t help but think of that when I read this!

Hope you are having a wonderful Christmas season with sweet Charlie!

    xoxo

The Revlon ones dry my lips out, so maybe I should give these a go! Very pretty Nutcracker look!
