Oh, sweet 2015. I’m always going to smile when I think back on this year–there were a few tough moments, but the joy of marrying Dave and settling into newlywed life trumps them all! We’ve been really fortunate that our first months of marriage have been free from any major outside stressors, and while I know that certainly won’t be the case forever, it has made this year especially seamless and special. I had a lot of fun going back through my Instagram and blog posts to round up a few highlights and favorite moments from my last months as an engaged gal and first months as a wife!
January: Did lots and lots of wedding planning, celebrated 100 days till the wedding at Mateo, picked out our cake flavors (chocolate with raspberry filling and carrot with cream cheese frosting–yum!)
February: Mailed our wedding invitations, celebrated at a surprise mini bridal shower with my sister and two childhood best friends, traveled to New York City for a fun work project
March: Celebrated at beautiful bridal showers in Texas and Syracuse, wore this darling dress at my bachelorette party in downtown Houston, returned to my beloved college town of Austin for a work trip
April: Celebrated Easter with waffles on our wedding china, turned 25, and attended a dear college friend’s wedding in Virginia
May: Got married!!! Then spent two weeks honeymooning in Rome and Lake Como and settled into newlywed life at home
June: Took a day trip to Wrightsville Beach, changed my name, and broke out my Jack Rogers for the beginning of summer
July: Celebrated the Fourth of July with friends, cheered on the Durham Bulls, and discovered our favorite spot for post-church coffee and croissants
August: Celebrated three months of marriage with dinner at our rehearsal dinner venue, spent a long weekend in the Adirondacks with the Kirks, continued to decorate our apartment
September: Spent Labor Day weekend in Wilmington with Dave’s parents, kicked off my capsule wardrobe, decorated for fall
October: Finished the magazine at work, spent five days in NYC for Bridal Market, and spoke at a conference in Charleston
November: Launched the new issue of Southern Weddings (complete with a feature on our wedding!), celebrated at the launch party with my mom and sister in attendance, celebrated Thanksgiving in Texas
December: Planned and styled a holiday kickoff party for a new group Dave and his friends are starting at our church, explored (and ate) in NYC with Dave for two days, and celebrated Christmas with the Kirks
While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to 2015, here are just a few of the things I’m looking forward to most in 2016:
- Monthly brunch dates with Dave (a new tradition we’re starting)
- Celebrating the marriage of one of my best friends
- Hopefully introducing Dave to my childhood home of Singapore
- Celebrating our first anniversary
- A fresh design and some content I’m really excited about here on Something Pretty!
