I’m definitely not writing this post because I’m a beauty expert–far from it–but it is something I’m interested in, and even more so, something I’m nosy about :) I love reading about the products and routines people swear by (A Cup of Jo’s Beauty Uniform posts are fascinating!) and chatting with friends about favorite finds. After lots of trial and error, I finally feel like I’ve found just the right products for my everyday makeup look, so I thought I’d share them today!
Face: My skin is prone to occasional breakouts and, double whammy, my skin tends to scar really easily, so coverage is my top priority when it comes to face makeup. I read about Clinique Even Better Compact Foundation on Camille Styles and could hardly get to the store fast enough–the coverage is better than anything I’ve tried, but it doesn’t feel heavy like my old liquid foundations did. I use the Cream Chamois shade. For any problem areas, I use a little bit of Benefit Boi-Ing Concealer in 02, but I use it way less now that I’ve switched foundations. I finish with Cover FX Blotting Powder (in Light), which a lady at Sephora recommended to me, and I’ve been really happy with it–I think I tried four different finishing powders before landing on this one. I apply it with a Too Faced Kabuki Brush. Finally, I love the look of rosy cheeks, so I wear blush every day–I picked up Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blush in Blushing Bride for my wedding and have worn it ever since. I hate it when brushes shed, so I recently bought a Bare Minerals Blooming Blush Brush after seeing it recommended by A Lone Star State of Southern. So far, so good!
Eyes: While I have the Urban Decay Naked2 palette and use it a few times a week, I usually stick to a quick swipe of liquid eyeliner on my top lids for every day–I use Smashbox Limitless Liquid eyeliner in Jet Black. Once it dries, I curl my eyelashes with a Shu Uemura eyelash curler and add two coats of mascara. My sister told me to try Benefit’s Roller Lash mascara, and it’s my favorite I’ve ever used. A recent discovery and addition to my makeup bag is the Pixi Natural Brow Duo, which has a pencil on one side to fill in your brows, and then a gel on the other side to keep them in place. The results are subtle, but I think they make a big difference.
Lips: Bright lips are my go-to for both special occasions and when I want to add a pop to my everyday look–I kind of view lipstick as an extra accessory. Nars Schiap is my favorite hot pink (pictured), and Sephora The Red 04 and Revlon Kiss Me Coral are frequently in my rotation as well. I also keep Softlips chapsticks all over the place, and use it morning and night.
That’s it! My whole makeup routine takes about five minutes and stays in place all day. Now I’d love to hear, what’s in your makeup bag?
I still haven’t been able to make lip color a regular part of my routine, I feel like I wear too much jewelry for it. Still trying cuz it makes me feel like I’m an adult :)
We will find you your perfect lip color!
I have a hard time making lip color a part of my daily routine, but lately I’ve been loving layering two of my favorite lipsticks- Chanel’s Rouge Coco Lip Shine in #80 underneath #54 -for a truly pretty pink that works for my skin tone. They are both super sheer, so I don’t feel like I’m wearing too much!
I have heard the best things about Chanel lipsticks but don’t have any! Maybe something I’ll add to my Christmas list :)
shout out!!!
I love this article! I’m gonna add some of your products on my Christmas wishlist for sure ! I was wondering where did you bought your makeup bag ?
So cute !
Thank you :)
Thanks, Annie! It was a gift, but it’s from West Elm two years ago :)
