Summer has felt nice and slow, but then all of a sudden, it was my sister’s birthday yesterday (happy birthday, Dana!!), and now, it’s September! I’m sad that summer is coming to a close–it’s definitely my favorite–but I’ve realized that I’m really excited to experience a new season with a husband. Summer started pretty much as soon as we got back from our honeymoon, and being married has made these last few months feel even more special. I’ve heard a lot of people say that they feel exactly the same after getting married, but that has not been the case for us at all, and I love it. I got so excited yesterday chatting with Dave about making our favorite chilis and soups, pulling out our coziest blankets, and going for runs in crisp weather, and I can’t wait to see what our first married fall is like!
1. Finish writing wedding thank you notes. Finally!!
2. Train for and run the Run for Life 5K (and hopefully beat my time from last year). YES! I beat my time last year by four minutes and felt great.
3. Host our first guests in our apartment. – Our friends weren’t able to make it, so I’m bumping this goal to September for when Dave’s parents stay with us for a night.
4. Unplug for vacation with Dave’s family in the Adirondacks. Yes, and it was heavenly. Read about it here.
September Goals
1. Host Dave’s parents well in our apartment.
2. Serve my first couple well at their wedding ceremony! I joined the wedding committee at church (the same church where Dave and I were married) and I’m really excited/a little bit nervous to help at my first wedding this month.
3. Successfully complete my first month of my fall capsule wardrobe.
4. Stay under our food budget. Travel/a little bit of laziness led to too much money spent at restaurants in August, and I really want to do better this month.
5. Start a new fall tradition with Dave. (Do you have any favorites we should consider? I’d love to hear!)
I love September, and though I’m holding onto the last days of summer, I am excited for all the autumn brings! I’m especially excited to experience a new season in my new city & to find all of the best events + activities in the area. I LOVE seasonal to-do lists and creating fun traditions, but it’s been many years since I’ve lived in a new city!
One of my favorite Fall traditions is an all-things-apple day… we always went to the mountains of Virginia to pick apples from the trees, drink apple cider, have a picnic (with apple cider doughnuts), and then we’d go back and cook everything apple (sweet and savory dishes, along with apple cider mulled with red wine!) for the rest of the day together. Is it corny to say we’d wrap up the night playing Apples to Apples?!
That is too fun!! Dave grew up apple picking every year so I definitely think we’ll need to find a farm somewhere–finishing the day with Apples to Apples is adorable! Thanks for the suggestion! :)
Oh my goodness.. I’m just bursting. You have the sweetest heart of anyone ever! You’re in the category of “wedding experts” and you joined the wedding committee at church to help out. You are going to bless the socks off of these couples, all in His name. LOVE it!!! Also, if you think first married summer was good.. just wait until first married Christmas. All the feels, headed your way! XO
Awww, Victoria! You’re the sweetest–thank you for this encouragement! And oh my word, I cannot WAIT to experience a married Christmas, especially after that Instagram you posted yesterday! Xoxo!
Birthday shoutout! :) Didn’t know you joined the wedding committee! Should be exciting!! Have a great september!!
XOXOXOXOXOXO!
Josh and I are just about to celebrate our one year anniversary and we loved our first fall together!
Do you guys like pumpkin? We did a really fun pumpkin beer tasting / pumpkin bread making night at home last fall that we plan to repeat. We made our own score cards and everything!
Awww yay! Happy (early) anniversary! :) We love pumpkin and I’m pretty sure Dave would be thrilled with the idea of a pumpkin beer tasting! Thanks for the fun suggestion!
[…] of September goals and we’ll see where it takes me. Thank you to Shay, Victoria, Emily and Lisa for the […]
That’s so awesome that you are on the wedding committee at church! I can’t wait to hear more about it!
First wedding is this weekend–I can’t wait! :)
