Two Ways to Style Holiday Tartan: Dressed Up

Style

I don’t usually post on Mondays, but considering today is Cyber Monday and I want to chat about something I think every girl should have in her closet, here’s a little bonus post! If you’re doing some online shopping today, be sure to head back to my Cyber Week Guide, which has been updated with today’s sale info. J. Crew and Loft, in particular, have ridiculously good promotions going on!

So, about that closet must-have :) For a long time, I resisted picking up a festive tartan blouse, even though I loved them on other people, because I knew I’d only really want to wear it in November and December. I try to be very intentional about clothing purchases (coming up with 3-5 outfits, stalking the website until the best promo codes come out, etc.), and couldn’t quite wrap my head around purchasing something so seasonal. Finally, a few years ago, I bit the bullet on a blackwatch plaid shirt (seen here!) and y’all…I wore that thing out. Even though, yes, it got the most use around the holidays, I reached for it constantly during those months and found it was always appropriate for any occasion. I pulled it out from the back of my closet this year only to be reminded that I had worn a hole in the cuff and lost three buttons on it last year (whoops!), so alas, it was time for a replacement. I mulled over a few different options before scooping up this ruffled one. I wanted to show you just how versatile holiday tartan can be, so I styled it two ways: one dressy, which I’m sharing today, and one casual, which will be on the blog tomorrow!

Shop this look:

I would love wearing this look to a holiday party, but I think it would also be appropriate in an office setting, maybe minus the velvet hair bow (though come on, how cute is it? :)). I’m really loving midi skirts lately–I’ve had mine for years, but linked a few similar ones above. Dave got me my poppy red clutch for Christmas last year and it’s my go-to anytime I don’t have to carry a diaper bag, so I was excited when they came out with a new version this year so I could share it. He said he picked the red color for me because it seemed like the red lipstick of accessories, which I thought was really sweet :) Finally, I’ve been wearing my Texas Poppy Lip Sheer and Lip Gloss from Beautycounter literally every day since I got it–it’s one of the holiday sets and is still available for a limited time.

Here are a few more holiday tartan shirts that I think would be equally cute and versatile:

Stay tuned for a casual look with this shirt coming to the blog tomorrow!
