My Fall Wish List

Style

At this time last year, I was a few weeks in to my capsule wardrobe experiment (you can see the pieces I included here, outfit round-ups here and here, and reflections here!). While I haven’t done one since (though pregnancy felt a little like the strictest capsule wardrobe ever ;)), some of the lessons I learned have certainly stuck with me. One of the biggest ones? My most beloved, most reached-for clothes are the ones in solids or classic patterns, always in my go-to color palette of whites, blues, and grays, with a little blush and bright pink thrown in for a good measure. Even in the fall when I find myself tempted by cozy, warmer tones, doing a capsule wardrobe last year helped me realize that I would reach for a cool-colored piece every time if the two were side by side in my closet. All that to say, there are some amazing fall pieces in stores right now that fit my color/pattern must-haves, but still look just right for the season–here are a few on my wish list!

Clockwise from top left:

Gray zip-up: Transitioning to working from home has me itching for more cute “athleisure” wear. I love the seersucker-esque detail on this zip-up, and think it would be so cute for everything from errand running to snuggling Charlie at home!

Blush baseball cap: Ditto on the athleisure note–a cute baseball cap makes a perfect accessory for looking casual, but still put together. Bonus: this one is in my favorite color.

Forest green and white cardigan: Someone told me that drapey cardigans are a nursing mama’s best friend, so this one might be a must. I love the jade green color for fall–it feels seasonal, but still like me.

Lapis statement earrings: Earrings are the only piece of jewelry, other than my engagement and wedding rings, that I wear every single day. I usually stick to studs (pearls, these, or these are my go-tos), but when I want to look a little dressier, Kendra Scott statement earrings are my favorite! I can’t stop thinking about these lapis earrings from their new collection.

Blush flats: As much as I love heels (read: a lot), I’ve been trying to ramp up my much-more-practical collection of flats. I tend to pick up a new pair every fall (last year, it was the cutest gingham smoking slippers!), and I think these classic, pointy toe, blush beauties will be the ones for 2016.

Navy quilted jacket: This is a splurge, so it falls pretty firmly in the “I wish” category ;) From what I’ve read about it, this jacket is the ideal weight for a place like North Carolina in the fall, and it’s just so classic…if I ever bring myself to buy one, I’m sure I’d keep it forever.

Green and navy gingham popover: I live in button downs in the fall, and can see myself reaching for this one again and again. The colors would carry into winter so well, too (Christmas green!).

Navy Hunter boots: These are perpetually on my wish list, but I haven’t had a reason to pick them up just yet. However, Dave and I have started talking about our next international trip possibly being Ireland in 2018, and I told him these boots need to be included in the travel budget, ha!

Navy and lace pajamas: So cute and cozy looking! These ones have unfortunately sold out, but this top is equally darling.

Blue and orange plaid button down: I love the pop of burnt orange in this plaid print!

Polka dot tank: I have a polka dot top that has been a staple in my closet for about five years–I think it might be time to switch it out for this lovely, layer-able one.

Such cute things! I am on the exact same page with the Barbour jacket: perpetually on the “I wish” list!! I particularly have my eye on the popover, flats, and earrings. My wish list just grew!

  2. Oh my goodness those pajamas are so cute! I like that your capsule wardrobe gave you a defined color palette for your wardrobe. I’ve never thought about that!

  3. Victoria says:

I have navy hunters and got them on a pretty good nordstrom markdown! Keep your eyes peeled!!

  4. mary wilmot says:

I love my Hunters and they’re perfect for travel and lots of walking! I’m definitely in the market for a new pair since I got mine in 2011. I am kicking myself that I didn’t get some last year because Costco had them around this time for like $80! Black Friday seems to be a good time to get them too. :)

  5. Kyla Fetzner says:

That polka dot top from J. Crew is on my wishlist too! So cute.

  6. Hannah R says:

Those flats are on my wish list too! Such a beautiful color!

  7. Kristina says:

I highly recommend the Barbour jacket! I have had my waxed Barbour jacket for four years now and have worn it every spring and fall since I bought it. So cute, so versatile and such a classic :) Love your entire roundup and totally agree, I would always choose the classic pieces over seasonal colors every time as well :)

  8. Dana says:

I like that orange and blue plaid shirt! And I love all forest green clothes!

  9. Em says:

Great picks! Though my budget says otherwise :) My favorites are the plaid and the dotted tank, and those wellies have long been on my list, too!!

  10. Sadie Lewis says:

Picked up the gingham popover during J.Crew’s fall sale last week! Love it and (bonus!) it’s so easy to nurse in. Your suggestion on color palette also rang true for me. I’m going to be more conscious of that when I’m tempted to pick up hues that aren’t my norm. Thanks for sharing!

    • Lisa says:

I have a feeling I’ll be judging most shirt purchases in the coming months by how nursing-friendly they are, so that is great to know!

  11. Love all your picks, Lisa! And I couldn’t agree more about discovering a color palette that works for you and works well with the rest of your wardrobe! I never did a strict capsule wardrobe, but experimented a bit and became much more intentional about my shopping, personal style, and color & pattern palette as a result! :)

p.s. I discovered that Costco occasionally carries Hunter boots and I snagged a pair for $60 last season vs the normal price tag of $150!! :)

    • Lisa says:

I’d love to hear about what you did to figure that out as an alternative to a capsule wardrobe! And that is amazing about the Hunters at Costco–I’m going to have my mom start keeping an eye out!
