My Fall Capsule Wardrobe

Style

Friends! Thank you so much for all of your encouragement about my fall capsule wardrobe–I’m super grateful for your comments and advice, and it made me all the more excited to share my experience! If you missed it, you can read about what a capsule wardrobe is, why I’m doing one this fall, and how I brainstormed the pieces to include here. And without further ado, here they are!

I am really happy with the pieces I ended up choosing, and even though there isn’t a ton of variety, I’m hoping it’ll still work well, since the “doubles” (striped shirts, white tanks, etc.) are all current staples in my wardrobe that I have no problem wearing all the time. One of my biggest goals for this challenge is to get creative with accessories and layering, so I think having some similar items will encourage me to do that as well!

As I mentioned in my last post, I ended up purchasing two new things: they were the printed silk blouse and the plaid smoking slippers. I decided to buy both because they’re unique pieces that I think will really make some of my upcoming outfits. My hope is that having just a few new pieces to mix and match will trick me into thinking I have more new things than I actually do–we’ll see how it goes :)

Full disclosure, I do want to note that I’m going into this with a few intentional exceptions: work events where I have to wear a certain thing (like our issue launch party), or dress in a way that’s not quite the same as my normal attire (like at Bridal Market). I’m going to try not to buy anything new for those events, so I don’t want to limit myself to my capsule items in order to be dressed appropriately.

Phew! All that said, I’m starting on Tuesday after Labor Day (gotta squeeze in a few more days decked out in Lilly Pulitzer at the beach ;)) and I’m looking forward to it! I’m still trying to decide how best to share my experience, so y’all let me know if there’s anything in particular you want to see. Yay!

P.S. I made my capsule wardrobe inspiration board on Pinterest public, if you want to take a peek! Making it was very helpful in determining the colors and pieces I wanted to include.

  1. SO excited for you to try out a capsule wardrobe and I’m so pumped to follow along!! Can’t wait to see all the outfits you come up with! :) Yay!!!

  2. Kristina says:

I love your picks! Are you going to share the outfits that you’ll be creating within your capsule wardrobe? Since I’m preparing for a move to England next week I feel like I’m creating my own “living abroad”-capsule wardrobe. Limited space in the suitcase will do that to you ;-)

    • Lisa says:

Thanks, Kristina! I think I’ll do a round-up of some of my favorites every two weeks, so stay tuned! :) Love the idea of a living abroad capsule wardrobe, and how exciting about your move!!

  3. Mary says:

Fun! Just wondering, what did you do with your other clothes so you’re not tempted to wear other things? Did you just pack them away for the season? I’m still trying to figure out the logistics. I think I’d have to start in October sometime too since we still have a decent amount of summer left. ;)

    • Lisa says:

I added shorts and sandals at the last minute because I realized fall hadn’t actually started yet, haha! I know most people suggest packing other clothes in boxes so they’re our of sight, but since we have zero storage space in our apartment, I’m probably just going to move everything else to the back of my closet and hope for the best!

  4. Em says:

Looks great! Can’t wait to see it come together every day! :)

  5. Dana says:

when did you get that field jacket?! so cute! Looks like you chose some promising stuff! Good luck!

    • Lisa says:

I got it with my birthday gift card! Now I won’t have to steal yours and Kristen’s when I’m home :)

  6. Victoria says:

Literally so excited about this because I love your style and have so many similar pieces, can’t wait to see how you style them!

Also, I knew why we’re friends when I read your last little blurb.. I’ve been wearing Lilly the past few days to squeeze it in! :)

Loved reading this post Lisa! I’ll be traveling all year and having been looking for ways to create a minimal wardrobe to take, but that I also love. This post was great inspiration!
